Ceiling Rose / Match Factory

Ceiling Rose 03:32
Ceiling Rose, Ceiling Rose Beneath your leaves our secrets unfold, Ceiling Rose, Ceiling Rose Beneath your leaves are worries untold. I have dreamed, I have slept I have sighed, I have kept, I have silently wept; And you gaze in return with acanthus and fern, You remind me that all is a circle and fall - Until the dawn. Ceiling Rose, Ceiling Rose Beneath your leaves our secrets unfold, Ceiling Rose, Ceiling Rose Beneath your leaves are vapours of old. Whether plaster or tin, Where does the pattern begin? Pupils mould to your shape In the night when I awake. You remind me that all is a circle and fall - Until the dawn.

Moon rises over the match factory; I’m heading north from the river Down those narrow Cremorne streets. They’re gutting all our memories – Even the tower on Swan Street; Forever the moon rises, and will rise over me. Silos tremble, I shiver as they leave; We used to climb up to the gantry Where we’d watch the city sleep. Walking home at dawn We feel the river through our feet; Forever the moon rises, and will rise over me. Far beyond my memory, Something older buried. Moon rises over the match factory; I’m heading north by the river To the hills from which it leaves. If I don’t return tomorrow, Leave a rock on the cairn for me. Forever the moon rises, And will rise over me.

about

Ceiling Rose is a song about secrets and dreams, waking and worrying in the night, drifting between states of consciousness.

Match Factory is a dedication to suburbs Cremorne, Richmond & Abbotsford, industrial and working life, and remnant buildings such as Dimmeys, the Bryant & May factory and Yorkshire Brewery silos. A song about loss and leaving, Match Factory was written walking through the northern river suburbs of Melbourne around the time of the ‘super moon’ in June 2013.
